Other Monkey Brewing – Technical Brewer

Salary £28,000 – £32,000

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our team at Other Monkey Brewing as a Technical Brewer. 

We are finally moving Other Monkey Brewing from Three Wise Monkeys Colchester’s basement into a dedicated production site next door. Our brewery and tap rooms will breathe life into an iconic building standing a mere stone’s throw from the historic castle.

The brewery will have a brand new, fully automated, 5 hl brewhouse at your disposal. Fermentation capacity will be 50 hl with 30 hl of serving tanks on site. We value quality and innovation above sheer production volumes, so you will have the freedom to innovate.

As a technical brewer, you will oversee the brewing process, take responsibility for raw materials, operatives, and technicians, as well as maintaining the safe and effective running of the brewery.

 

Responsibilities

  • Purchase raw materials, such as hops, yeast, and cereal, making sure they meet the required quality standards.
  • Monitor fermentation and check temperatures and the quality of samples, making any necessary production adjustments.
  • Accurately record raw materials, production stage timings and quality checks.
  • Introduce new or different methods of brewing.
  • Find new suppliers and review existing ones.
  • Ensure the correct storage and stock management of raw materials.
  • Work on new recipes for seasonal and specialty beers ensuring they appeal to a particular certain market or will enhance sales at a specific time of the year.
  • Keeping track of stock and records of raw materials.
  • Clean and maintain all equipment, making sure the strictest levels of hygiene are kept throughout the brewing process.
  • Ensure all work always adheres to quality and safety standards.
  • Keep up to date with developments in technology in the industry.
  • Build and train a team of future brewers to develop OMB into an industry leading brand.  

 

Qualifications

  • Brewing Degree or IBD Accreditation – Desirable 

 

Experience

  • Experience in a commercial brewery setting and a thorough knowledge of production and packaging is essential.

Other Monkey Brewing – Tap Room Manager

Salary £24,000 – £26,000

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our management team at Other Monkey Brewing as a Tap Room Manager.

Other Monkey Brewing is a Colchester, Essex based brewery founded in March 2016. Independently owned, we brew both traditional ales and exciting, award winning craft beers.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about beer and customer service and wants to be part of a dedicated team in a fast-growing market sector. This is a hands-on role and requires someone who can lead by example in developing the Tap Room.

The Tap Room Manager will be responsible for promoting and running the Tap Room and assist in driving the brewery brand forward.  The role will require a confident individual capable of discussing Other Monkey Brewing beers and the trends in craft brewing in general.  The individual will have a strong background in cellar management, personnel management, and customer service.

The successful candidate responsibilities:

  • Be an ambassador to Other Monkey Brewing. You are the face of the brewery when people visit the Tap Room
  • Cellar Management to include responsibility of beer lines, beer styles, stock rotation and cleanliness of work area
  • Create and host taster evenings, working closely with the kitchen team to develop food and beverage pairings
  • Develop and manage staff training that enhances their knowledge of all the beers on tap, ingredients used, style on draft and events and procedures
  • Create effective staff schedules
  • Manage stock control
  • Work closely with the promotions team to highlight exciting new products
  • Support the management team with the purpose of improving the running of the venue and upkeep of the building
  • Guarantee all aspects of health and safety, licensing is adhered to
  • Undertake daily accounting duties and dealing with customer enquiries and bookings
  • Liaise with suppliers and contractors

What you need to have:

  • Passion, enthusiasm and knowledge of beer and brewing
  • 3 years’ experience in working in the same/similar management role is essential
  • Strong cellar management skills, confident dealing with different types of kegs, changing regulators, increasing and reducing gas pressures, line cleaning.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-starter and good self-manager
  • Professional in all work environment settings
  • Great organisational skills
  • Team player

Desirable:

  • Completion of the Cicerone Certification Program
  • Degree or Diploma in Hospitality Management
  • Personal Licence

We are looking for candidates with Education and Experience in the following:

– Formal brewing education from a credited brewing program preferred
– College Degree in a related technical field (Science or Engineering) and at least 2 years’ experience in a Commercial Production Brewery; or equivalent combination of education and experience
– Advanced knowledge of beer offerings and recipe development (flavours, ingredients, etc.)
– Previous brewery experience
