History Of Other Monkey Brewing

The Great Journey Begins

Independently owned, Essex based brewery “Other Monkey Brewing” started production in March 2016, in the basement of Three Wise Monkeys Colchester with a focus on brewing exceptional traditional ales and unique, award-winning craft beers.

With a young, dynamic team of creative brewers utilising a mix of classic brewing techniques and fresh industry ideas we began brewing a range of fantastic beers and supporting local venues such as Three Wise Monkeys, Twisters and V Bar with main-stay product lines such as Great Journey Begins.

33rd Colchester Real Ale and Cider Festival Award

In 2018, CAMRA awarded Other Monkey Brewing’s delicious Vanilla Latte Stout with “Beer of The Festival” Award at the 33rd Colchester and North East Essex CAMRA Colchester Real Ale and Cider Festival.

“Taking top honours in the real ale competition is Vanilla Latte Stout from the Other Monkeys brewery based in the Three Wise Monkeys Colchester on the High Street. Beers don’t get much more local than that.”

Since the festival, Other Monkey Brewing has flourished, participating in numerous Beer & Cider industry publications such as CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide in 2019.

A Legacy Continued

In 2019, Other Monkey Brewing continued its strategic growth following an overwhelming local response, and endeavoured to convert the well loved ‘JACKS’ building located within Colchester High-street into a unique Taproom and Brewery experience.

Colchester Council leader Mark Cory (Lib Dem) said: “The former Jacks store is a significant part of the history of Colchester’s town centre.

“Working with Three Wise Monkeys to bring this important building back into economic use will help stimulate further inward investment, as well as delivering more jobs in the town. Personally, I enjoy going to Three Wise Monkeys for a drink and feel this new venture will add so much to the attraction of the place. It really adds to the atmosphere to see the brewery right there in front of you.

I am happy to raise a glass to support this local business go from strength to strength.”

With permission approved, and a long-term goal in sight of providing freshly brewed beer and a unique experience Other Monkey Brewing continued through a two-year development project.
